Usually, whenever Central Railway or Western Railway faces derailment or emergency situations, the motorman finds it difficult to coordinate with the other motormen or the control room. Considering such situations, the Centre For Railway Information System (CRIS) planned to install SOS buttons in the local and outstation trains. These SOS buttons will be operated by the motorman of the train.

SOS is sent out during emergencies which immediately calls out the person towards the concerned authorities for help. During emergencies and in case of derailments, the motorman will be able to press the button. Following this, the control room will alert the other motormen.

The CRIS will take a year to implement the same.

Uday Bobhate, general manager, centre for railway information system, told Hindustan Times,

The trial and testing of the real time update has been done and will be inducted soon. The SOS system will be integrated with the real-time system."
