Double-decker plan for Metro 9 corridor?
SHARES

Mumbai and the people living here are always known to make the optimum use of the space that is available to them. So it is not surprising to see the same approach being applied even to the on-going Metro project.

The proposal for a double decker plan has been submitted for the Metro 9 corridor. This mentro line will ply between Dahisar and Bhayander. If this goes through, it will be first of its kind project for Mumbai.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has already chalked out the details of the plan and as per the same, the metro corridor will be on the first level and elevated road will take up the second. The reason for this innovative plan was to accommodate the metro line and at the same time facilitate faster road travel. On completion, this double-decker corridor will help in easing the traffic situation at arterial Kashimira road.

This project was helmed by Ashwini Bhide, who was also the face of Metro 3 project which is the Colaba-Seepz Metro line. She had been at the receiving end of the environmentalists’ ire for her statements justifying cutting of trees in the Aarey region. She has now been transferred from this project and the experts are of the opinion that in her absence there can be negative impact on the pace of this project.

The Mumbai Metro is currenlty functional only from Versova to Ghatkopar.
