In a heart scathing incident, three coaches of a local train on Harbour line derailed while entering Kharkopar station at 8.46 am on Tuesday morning, February 28. 

In repercussion to this, the train traffic on the Belapur-Seawoods-Kharpokar suburban corridor was suspended during peak and rush hours affecting the schedule of daily commuters. If reports are to be believed, it will take nearly two-three hours to restore the services. While officials stated that the harbour line services have been restored within 90 minutes.

Fortunately, no injury has been reported to any passengers. Moreover, in a major relief trains to office goers on the main line and other sections of Central Railway (CR), the services connecting those routes were restored in one and a half hour and later were running as per schedule. 

Besides, trains have reached site and restoration work is in full swing, said CR PRO Shivaji Sutar. 

The officials present on the scene said that the track will be laid and it is a time extensive work. CIDCO fire engines also reached the spot for inspection.

A preliminary information received stated that the incident happened a few meters shy of Kharkopar station and that one side of the track has been uprooted. However, the exact cause of derailment is not yet clear.
