The MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) has announced two metro projects as well as the completion of three new road projects which will significantly reduce traffic woes and congestion during peak hours.

The authorities have mentioned that the D N Nagar-Dahisar Metro 2A and Andheri-Dahisar Metro 7 will be operational by October this year. It is said that these metro lines will carry 4.1 and 5.3 lakh passengers, thus reducing overcrowding on public transport, particularly on local trains.

Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, Sonia Sethi said: “By 2026, MMR will have Metro length of around 337 km. In 2019, 41.1 km length of work had begun on 3 corridors whereas in 2020, 87 km route length of Metro work will begin.”

The MMRDA will also undertake the expansion of SCLR (Santacruz – Chembur Link Road) till Western Express Highway, BKC-Vakola Junction elevated road, and Kalanagar Junction by the end of 2020. The authorities have decided to build two flyovers at Kalanagar Junction along with a free-left for motorists at the T-Junction towards Sea Link.

Kalanagar Junction is a particularly crowded area that takes motorists around 20-30 minutes simply to clear the junction during peak hours. This road expansion project is expected to cut that time by at least 10 minutes. The SCLR expansion works are set to commence from Kapadia Nagar at CST Road and will finish at WEH near Kurla.
