The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will get a big upgrade in March 2020 as the authorities have announced the opening of a brand new two-storey restroom aimed at easing the pain for over 5 lakh passengers that flock the iconic station each day. The new restroom will reportedly be located adjacent to the existing toilet within the CSMT concourse area.

“We will construct 33 blocks (urinals) in this toilet, which will be in addition to the 46 already in place in the non-AC section,” a Central Railways official said. CSMT is also where Central Railways is headquartered.

The authorities reportedly plan to spend Rs 50 lakhs for the construction of these new restrooms. The idea currently includes the construction of eight WCs on the mezzanine floor while there will be urinals built on the ground floor.

It was recently reported that the Central Railways is forming a plan with the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) for the redevelopment of CSMT and turn it into a world-class station. This new announcement appears to be the first step towards realizing that goal.
