As per data provided by the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) saw more than 2 lakh passengers either left or arrived at the city since May 25. Overall, MIAL mentioned that 1,40,878 of these passengers were leaving the city, while 60,380 passengers arrived at the airport.
Understandably, departures far outweigh the arrivals in the city given that there are some restrictions in place for those arriving in the city from designated COVID-19 hotspots across India.
The data further shows that the Mumbai - Delhi route was the most popular with 41,206 passengers flying on this route. This was followed by flights to other destinations like Kolkata (West Bengal), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Patna (Bihar).

Though most of the flights have resumed in the city, previously popular flight routes like Goa and Chennai are yet to become operational.
When the state announced the reopening of domestic flight operations on May 25, the CSMIA was only allowed to fly a total of 50 flights per day including 25 arrivals and departures respectively.
The number has now risen to 100 flights per day with 50 arrivals and departures. Additionally, Mumbai’s airport has now resumed flights to other destinations like Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Udaipur (Rajasthan), Raipur (Chattisgarh), and Jalgaon in Maharashtra.
Speaking on the measures taken at CSMIA, a spokesperson told The Hindu- “The airport has allowed check-in through e-boarding pass on cellular devices for its passengers, besides placing stringent measures to screen drivers and fumigate the vehicles entering the airport premises.”
