Mumbai Airport passengers faced a major inconvenience on Thursday evening, December 1, after all systems crashed down at Terminal 2. However, after over 2 hours, the serves at the airport have been restored finally. Though, the chaos and long queues continue due to backlog.

If reports are to be believed, they the systems were partially up as of 6 pm. According to sources, the servers at Mumbai's airport have been down since 4:15 pm. The root cause of the issue at the T2 terminal is the fiber optic cable being cut.

Following the outage, the airport saw long queues and chaos at the boarding counter as check-ins were taking place manually upsetting the flight takeoff schedule. Reports also mentioned that passengers were forced to wait for over an hour for baggage drop.

One of two terminals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), T2 mostly deals with international flights but is also for domestic routes.

In an official statement, CISF at the Mumbai International Airport said: “Due to the server down at Mumbai International Airport, the crowd is slightly more than normal. The crowd is being managed well and there is no chaos as manual passes are being issued.”

The airport operator requested passengers to "allocate additional time for check-in and also to kindly connect with their respective airlines, owing to a temporary network interruption". It cited "on-going development in the city" as the reason behind the disruption.

"Our teams are present on ground and manual processing has been initiated to facilitate all passengers. We sincerely regret the inconvenience and thank our passengers for their understanding," read the further statement by Mumbai International Airport Limited.

It is pertinent to note that the airport in Mumbai is India's second busiest after the one in Delhi.
