According to civic authorities, the final decision with regards to the timings of local trains in Mumbai will be taken after February 20. Moreover, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is to review the situation after February 20, following which decisions on the Mumbai local timings will be taken.

This comes after Mumbai recorded a spike in COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, the decision was taken in the weekly meeting which was attended by representatives of the state government and health officials.

After a gap of nearly 300 days, the general public was allowed to travel in the suburban railway system. However, the trains currently are permitted to ferry the general public in three-time slots: From the time of the start of the services till 7 am, from 12 noon to 4 pm, and from 9 pm till the time of the closure of services for the day.

On the other hand, according to the data shared by Western and Central Railways, 4,618 commuters have been for travelling without face masks on Central (CR) and Western Railway (WR) between February 1 and February 14. This include, 2,558 passengers on the Western Railway and 2,060 passengers on the Central Railway.
