The work of Metro 7A route from Andheri to International Airport undertaken by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has picked up pace and the tunneling work of the second tunnel in this route has started.


Metro 7 route from Dahisar to Gundavali, Andheri East is currently in service. This route is being extended from Andheri East to International Airport through Metro 7A route. The work of a 2.49 km long double subway (tunnel) of this 3.442 km route started from September 1. 


The work is underway with the help of T62 TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) and the initial tunneling work has been completed. Now, MMRDA has started the tunneling work of the second tunnel. Undergrounding has been started with the help of a 60 TBM machine. The initial work of tunneling will be completed within a month. The MMRDA is planning to complete the tunneling work of both these tunnels by May 2024. If this route is completed, it will be possible to travel from Andheri to the International Airport in just a few minutes.

The traffic congestion on the Western Expressway will also be cleared. But at the same time, this route will make it easy to reach the international airport from any corner of Mumbai in the future. Because this route is going to be connected with other metro routes. 

Uttan-Bhayander-Mira Road to Dahisar Metro 9, Dahisar to Gundavali Metro 7, Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 will be connected. So it will be easy to reach the airport even from Colaba and Uttan. Therefore, this Metro 7A route is considered very important.
