Mumbai’s Metro-2A, 7 trial runs delayed

As per reports, the trial runs for Mumbai Metro 2A, 7 has been delayed and are likely to start from March 2021 instead of January 2021.

In view of the pandemic, the trials for Metro-2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) and Metro-7 (Dahisar E-Andheri E) has been delayed.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is currently looking at starting the trial runs from March 2021 instead of January 2021. Moreover, as per the officials, the pandemic has resulted in the delayed manufacturing of several crucial elements required for both the civil works and the trains.

The rakes are being manufactured by the Bengaluru-based Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML). The two corridors, part of the 337-km Mumbai Metro master plan, were initially supposed to be operational by December 2020.

The MMRDA had earlier ordered additional 12 train sets of six cars each for the Metro-2B (DN Nagar-Mankhurd), Metro-7A and Metro-9 (Andheri to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Dahisar to Mira Bhayander) from Bengaluru-based Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML).
