On Monday, March 22, the Mumbra bypass will remain shut for vehicular traffic throughout the day and urged commuters to use diversions to reach their destination, said Thane police.

According to officials, the stretch between the Kharegaon toll plaza and Mumbra bypass, along the old Mumbai-Pune highway, has been cordoned off in order to facilitate the completion of railway girdle launching near Retibunder in Mumbra.

As a result, it will have a massive impact on commuters from Badlapur, Dombivli, Navi Mumbai and Pune, who use the stretch on a regular basis to reach Thane, Ghodbunder and other western suburbs.

Hence, the police have requested the commuters travelling from Kharegaon toll plaza towards Retibunder, Mumbra bypass, Kalamboli and Mahape, and those driving from JNPT, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan to Kharegaon to use alternative routes to avoid further inconvenience.

Officials stated that the work of the girdle was scheduled to be completed by Sunday midnight, March 21, but due to some unforeseen technical reasons, it has been delayed, thus it is necessary to block the road to execute the work as soon as possible.
