The Maharashtra Transport Department has launched a new online service for booking VIP vehicle registration numbers on November 25, 2024. This digital service, called "The Integrated Solution for Booking of Registration Mark of Choice," lets citizens choose their preferred registration numbers for vehicles. Users can also make payments through the online portal.
Starting Monday, November 25, people can visit the Parivahan website to apply for VIP registration numbers. The website supports digital payments for new cars, SUVs, and two-wheelers. The state agency has also made the process easy and clear. The online tool is designed to be simple, anonymous, and fully digital.
Applicants need to link their Aadhar with a phone number. They can reserve their registration number through the website https://fancy.parivahan.gov.in. Verification is required using an Aadhar-linked OTP or mobile number. After confirming payment, the VIP number is assigned. Car dealers can then use the digital receipt to issue new number plates.
In addition to the new booking tool, the state has mandated high-security registration plates (HSRPs). These plates are now required for all vehicles to enhance security and reduce crime involving vehicles. Maharashtra has over 4.4 crore registered vehicles, with 48 lakh in Mumbai alone.
Following the launch of a new series, an offline auction will be used to reserve registration numbers. When multiple requests come in for the same number, an auction is held. The highest bidder pays the difference to secure the number. The office cashier then issues a receipt for the payment.
After the offline auction ends, the remaining unreserved numbers can be booked online. This system involves following outlined steps for the reservation.
Two months ago, the state increased the fee for the "1" number on two-wheelers from INR 50,000 to INR 1 lakh. Charges for four-wheelers with numbers like 0009, 0099, and 9999 are now INR 2.5 lakh. For two- and three-wheelers, the fee for these numbers is INR 50,000. The state also raised the price for 49 other VIP numbers to INR 6 lakh.
There is high demand for the number "1." It is popular among businesspeople, celebrities, politicians, and wealthy individuals. It also helps boost government revenue.
