Moreover, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had requested the state government to form a committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to redevelop the railway stations in the Mumbai metropolis on the lines of the metro railway project. Accordingly, a committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte.

The High-Level Committee is chaired by the Chief Secretary and comprises of Upper Chief Secretary (Home), Upper Chief Secretary (Revenue), Upper Chief Secretary (Transport),  Principal Secretary (Urban Development), Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority, Indian Railway Station. The members will be the Managing Director of Redevelopment Corporation, Chairman and Managing Director of Mumbai Railway Development Corporation, Chairman of Mumbai Port Trust and General Manager of Western Railway.

On the other hand, after the announcement of curfew-like restrictions in the state by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, a large number of people had gathered at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to leave for their hometown. In view of the situation, Central Railways (CR) has announced around 230 summer special trains that operate between Mumbai and stations in the north and eastern part of India to meet the additional demand of passengers during this time of the year as migrants are heading home town either due to loss of livelihood or to participate in elections and marriage events.
