Smartphones have become a part of our daily lives, and we end up consuming entertainment content throughout the day. Keeping the same in mind, the state transport authority (STA), on Wednesday, gave a go-ahead to the proposal of installing LED or LCD screens in vehicles under the motor cab category. This will help the commuters with infotainment in the city’s popular kaali-peeli cabs and auto-rickshaws.
The meeting was held on January 19, where the committee helmed by the transport secretary of Maharashtra, agreed to this new policy on advertisements. The decision was taken keeping the feedback in mind, received from Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT).
Suggestions for the same include that the electronic screens should be fixed on the roof of cabs or behind the seats, to avoid distracting the driver.
The aim behind the initiative is to ensure that the state of government provided transport system improves, and this becomes beneficial to both passengers and permit-holders, as this might help them with advertising revenue and entertainment options.
