Chief Minister Eknath Shinde launched 20 affordable air-conditioned (AC) e-buses on Tuesday, February 13 at 3 pm in a dedication ceremony at Thane. It will start from Borivali-Thane-Nashik route.

For this, 5150 air-conditioned e-buses will join MSRTC's fleet from February 14. Due to this, the travel of citizens will be more convenient and economical. Moreover, it reflects a strategic vision for sustainable mobility.

This initiative was taken after AC electric Shivneri buses were launched on the Mumbai-Pune route.

According to officials, e-bus charging stations are being built at more 173 bus stations in the state for such AC e-buses.

Features/Benefits Of These Buses:

The service boasts a range of amenities, including air conditioning, semi-luxury seating for 34 people.  These buses can run up to 200 kilometers on a single charge. These buses get fully charged in just 3-4 hours.

With a commitment to safety, each bus is equipped with fire extinguishers and first aid kits.

The Borivali/Thane-Nashik routes, spanning over 150 km, are expected to take approximately 4 to 4.5 hours, providing a reliable and time-efficient option for commuters.

Talking about bus fare, citizens will have to pay INR 405 to travel on Borivali to Nashik route.

A fare of INR 340 will be charged for traveling on the Thane to Nashik route. Also, women of 65-75 years and senior citizens will get 50 per cent discount in ticket fare. Meanwhile, over 75 years will enjoy discounts of 100% respectively.

Besides, 5000 ST buses in the state will run on LNG instead of diesel.

Last week, in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, an MoU was signed with King Gas Company to convert five thousand diesel buses of Maharashtra State Transport Corporation into Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vehicles. This will help in reducing the pollution caused by vehicles by about 10 per cent. At the same time, this will help the corporation to save INR 234 crore every year.
