Commuters will soon be able to travel from CSTM to Goregaon on the harbour route after the Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS) for the western region has given a green signal to ply suburban trains at a speed of up to 100 kmph. On Tuesday, the test run was conducted between Andheri and Goregaon between 10:00 am to 3:00 pm by the Railway Safety Commissioner.

The test run was successful and hence, the harbour line train will begin by February end or in the first week of March. Railways believe that this will benefit lakhs of passengers on the harbor route.

Commuting would be easy for Andheri, Bandra and Dadar's commuters

Railways believe that with the extension of harbour route from Andheri to Goregaon, there will be less crowd at Andheri, Bandra, and Dadar.

For a long time, passengers were demanding an extension on Harbour line services till Goregaon. The decision of the same was taken in 2008.

The project was undertaken as part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-2 which had completed setting up tracks till Goregaon. The Goregaon harbour local train will halt at Jogeshwari and Ram Mandir station. Though the CR had planned to extend 23 services to Goregaon, they will only operate till Andheri and out of 23 services, 18 will operate between Panvel and Andheri.
