'Travelling without a ticket is not only an offence but also a social evil. Please help Railways to root it out.' Every day the announcement is broadcasted in trains and across platforms in order to bring awareness amongst the people to travel with a valid ticket. However, despite repeated attempts from the rail corporation, people travel without tickets in trains.

Therefore, in order to counter the miscreants, Western Railways had introduced various campaigns against the ticketless travellers. Under the campaign, Western Railways collected ₹13.46 crore as fine for travelling without tickets in March 2019 alone.

As per the Western Railways, they had caught around 2.45 lakh offenders and had levied a fine on them, which helped them earn ₹13.46 crore in just a month.

Meanwhile, the fine collected from number of passengers travelling without a ticket has increased exponentially, i.e. 49.87 per cent as compared to the last year. Also, 258 people were jailed for not paying the fine.
