The Mumbai local train services, which have not been operational for the general public, for the last 10 months, might resume soon. As per reports, the updated information would come as a relief for those who are looking forward to the same to start. 

According to the official information shared by the railways, additional 204 suburban services will be added to the existing 2781 services making it 2985 services on Mumbai Suburban network. Starting January 29, 2021,  Western Railway will operate 1,300 trains instead of 1,201 train services. Meanwhile, Central Railway has decided to increase the local train services from the existing 1580 to 1685 services 

The department has appealed to the passengers to follow the rules. Currently, only those passengers permitted by Ministry of Railways and Government of Maharashtra will be allowed to travel by the suburban trains. Others are requested not to rush to the railway stations. Further, passengers are advised to adhere to all norms, SOPs related to COVID-19 during the boarding, travel and at the destination.

Mumbai local train services, for the general public, will not resume from January 29, 2021. But it is hoped that the railways and the government will soon decide to start all its services offering the much-awaited relief to the public.  

As per data, more than 80 lakh passengers travel to Mumbai every day by local trains. However, the number has dropped to 20 lakh due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The local train services resumed in June after being closed for more than two months, however, only workers from the essential services were allowed initially. This was followed by members from selected professions and women, however, they are also allowed to travel only with certain strict conditions and guidelines.
