Mumbai division of Western Railway (WR) has decided to install 436 talkback system (microphone system) at ticket counters for both suburban and non suburban sections. Of the total, 345 systems are allocated to unreserved counters and 91 to public reservation counters.
It includes 36 stations on the WR from Churchgate to Dahanu and 29 passenger reservation system location.
Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of WR, said that this development comes in a bid to enhance and ease communication between passengers and ticket-issuing personnel.
He further stated that sometimes due to noise at the station, either passengers or booking clerks are not able to hear properly, resulting in wrong tickets being issued. These systems will reduce the hassle during the two-way communication.
It is pertinent to note that the Mumbai Central Division of WR has a total of 521 counters comprising 409 unreserved and 112 public reservation centres. They have acknowledged the challenges faced due to ambient noise at stations, leading to miscommunication. This often resulted in the issuance of incorrect tickets, causing inconvenience.
