It’s time to lay out those bright green banana leaves and celebrate Onam, Kerala style! This season learn how to serve and prepare your own Sadhya, as Jars & Journeys brings to you a Onam sadhya workshop. Sadhya is a traditional feast of the Hindu Malayalis. Consisting of a variety of traditional vegetarian dishes, it is associated as ‘The Feast Of Gods’.

Daulat & Divisha the husband and wife duo behind Jars & Journeys, offer a platform to all budding chefs and artists. Their love for travelling gave them an opportunity to experience the famous Onam Sadhya, Kerala style. This Onam they decided to not only let people experience but also learn how to make a traditional Onam Sadhya. They are hosting a workshop on 23rd August at Jars & Journeys with Chef Preetha Srinivasan. Chef Preetha has worked with hotels like Hilton, Orchid and brands like Nestle, Holachef. She has designed recipes, cookbooks for Tarla Dalal and conceptualised for Food shows like Masterchef India. She believes that if food is cooked with the right emotion then any ordinary dish can become extraordinary. She will be teaching different Sadhya preparations and also educate the attendees more about the Food of Kerala.  The workshop will have variations of parboiled red rice, side dishes, savouries, pickles and desserts, all served at different times of the meal.

The attendees will learn dishes such as Olan which is a light dish, prepared with white gourd or black peas, coconut milk, and ginger seasoned with coconut oil. The Naranga Curry which is a sour lemon pickle, Choru a red rice served by Malayalis on Onam and Avial which is a dense mixture of various vegetables and coconut, seasoned with curry leaves and coconut oil. Apart from these dishes, she will also be teaching a few other traditional dishes like Erissery, Pineapple Pulissery and Kolan.
