  • A raga provides the melodic matrix for a performance in the Indian art music tradition. Among various features relating to the concept of raga, its relationship with diurnal and seasonal time cycles is an exciting one. Ustad Rashid Khan, with his robust yet sonorous voice, uncanny technical control over sargam and taankari, effortless rendition of varied forms from khayal and tarana to thumri and geet, is one of the most sought – after vocalists today. This concert will feature traditional compositions of the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, including bada khayal, chhota khayal and tarana in ragas assigned to the second quarter of the morning.
