From Hope to Hopeless: Here's how Indians displayed stupidity at PM Modi's '9 Baje 9 minute' initiative

In a nationwide address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to switch off all the lights in our houses and light a 'diya' or candle or even a torch at 9:00 pm for nine minutes on April 5. He suggested that this will signify us shedding away the darkness spread by coronavirus at moving towards the light.

In his previous address too, the Prime Minister people to clap or ring bells from our balconies, as a token of appreciation for medical workers and other frontline staff that are working to make sure that we stay safe. However, Indians were probably bored sitting at home during the janta curfew and perhaps in their overexcitement gathered in groups and took this activity to the streets and thus forgot all about social distancing that is the need of the hour.

Following this, PM Modi had to request the enthusiastic individuals to maintain social distancing and remind them that a lockdown was still in place. He specifically appealed the people to light diyas and showcase their support from their respective residences. However, despite an appeal from Prime Minister Modi, some could not resist a chance to show how truly grateful they were to have been provided with an opportunity. And what followed was something no one would have ever imagined.

Here are some of the glimpses that show how stupidity can truly be found in the brightest corners if one remembers to turn on the light:

1. How can someone misinterpret 'diyas' for firecrackers?

  • Diyas are lit in Diwali
  • Firecrackers are also lit during Diwali
  • Hence proved? diyas=firecrackers?

2.

Nobody:

Literally Nobody:

3. You had one job! Staying at home! *facepalm*

This is not the Chinese virus. Even Ramdas Athavale had the sense to call it coronavirus.

4. I believe the house was supposed to be their residence throughout the lockdown.

The video is from Oshiwara, Mumbai. Seems they took the "lighting something" part way too seriously.

5. Are they trying to ward off coronavirus or are they summoning it?
