Sion hospital resident doctors on strike!

Resident doctors at the municipal Sion Hospital have struck work since Monday morning. They have assembled outside the Sion hospital to protest the increasing number of attacks on resident doctors.

A large number of doctors have participated in the strike. Relatives of a deceased patient, Rekha Singh, who succumbed to kidney failure on 18 March, beat up a resident doctor after he conveyed the news of her death.

On 19 March, three accused were arrested but later were released on bail.

The doctors are now saying they are unable to work in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity at the BMC run hospital. They say they are bearing the brunt of systemic failure and facing the ire of patients.

Newly elected Mumbai mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar is scheduled to visit Sion Hospital today and could meet the protesting doctor. Yesterday, the resident doctors held a candle march to protest against the assault. Read here -
