Several best-selling books have been adapted into movies and many others got their due recognition only after it was screened on the big screen. However, now book rights are like a goldmine for filmmakers as it contains a plethora of great content. Check out these 5 web series that have been inspired from books to get you 'booked to the web'. 

1. Leila

Leila is an Indian dystopian drama web television series directed by Deepa Mehta, Shanker Raman and Pawan Kumar. Based on the 2017 eponymous novel by Prayaag Akbar, Leila follows the story of Shalini, who tries to find her missing daughter in a totalitarian regime in the near future. Written by Urmi Juvekar, it stars Huma Quereshi, Siddharth, Rahul Khanna, Sanjay Suri and Arif Zakaria. The six-episode series premiered on 14 June 2019 on Netflix.

2.  Sacred Games 

Sacred Games is an Indian web television thriller series based on Vikram Chandra's 2006 novel of the same name. The first Netflix original series in India, it is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap who produced it under their banner Phantom Films. The web series introduces iconic roles like Sartaj Singh and Gaitonde and stars Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui respectively along with Kalki Koechlin, Pankaj Tripathi, Radhika Apte, Rajshree Deshpande among others.

3. Bard Of Blood 

Bard of Blood is an upcoming Indian spy thriller web series based on the 2015 espionage novel of the same name by Bilal Siddiqi. Directed by Ribhu Dasgupta and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the series stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead role along with Kirti Kulhari, Vineet Kumar Singh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Amyra Dastur and Sobhita Dhulipala. It is an eight-episode series that revolves around the story of an ex-RAW agent. The series will premiere on September 27, 2019, on Netflix.

4. Selection Day

Selection Day is an Indian Netflix Original Sports web television series, based on Aravind Adiga's 2016 novel. Produced by Anil Kapoor and Anand Tucker, it stars Mohammad Samad, Yash Dholye, Karanvir Malhotra, Rajesh Tailang, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ratna Pathak Shah, Shiv Pandit, Parul Gulati and Akshay Oberoi. The series follows the life of two brothers Radha and Manju who are raised by their cricket-obsessed father and meet their rival Javed. The first six episodes of Selection Day premiered on December 28, 2018. Part 2, consisting of another set of six episodes, was premiered on 19 April 2019.

5. The Final Call 

The Final Call is a 2019 Indian web television thriller series based on Priya Kumar's 2015 novel 'I Will Go with You: The Flight of a Lifetime'. Directed by Vijay Lalwani, it centres around the passengers of a flight from Mumbai to Sydney whose lives are endangered after the captain decides to commit suicide on board.
