HarperCollins India, Olive Bar & Kitchen and Fratelli Wines were delighted to come together for hosting the first launch event of supermodel-actor-cancer survivor and now author, Lisa Ray’s riveting memoir, Close to the Bone on May 27 at 6:30 pm. Lisa Ray was in conversation with Anandita Ghose, Editor-Mint Lounge, about her book and her journey so far. Anandita's insightful questions assured that the audience were nothing less than captivated by the entire conversation.

An inspiring, riveting read, Close to the Bone is an insightful travelogue of Lisa’s life-changing experiences, which goes beyond the memoir. Speaking about what moved her to write it, Lisa Ray said, “I wrote Close to the Bone to reveal, unmask, enchant, terrify and connect. To reveal how important the inner journey is vis a vis the outer. To encourage knowing your shadow as well as your light as we are only whole with both sides. And finally, to illustrate that when you stop chasing love to create a life you love, love will follow.”

The event witnessed many celebrated names from the media and film fraternity like Bachi Karkaria, Kirti Kulhari, Malini Agarwal, Pralhad Kakkar and Nirav Mittal. Delving deep into her spiritual side she spilt some beans of her love for Buddhism and the pilgrimage journey undertaken by her. Stating that her favourite word is 'serendipity' she read out excerpts from her book which left the audience spellbound. The best moment which melted everyone's heart was when her twin kids were waving at her and the audience.

One of India’s first supermodels, actor, cancer survivor, mother of twins through surrogacy, Lisa Ray's book is an unflinching, deeply moving account of her nomadic existence: her stumbling into the Indian entertainment industry at sixteen; her relationship with her Bengali father and Polish mother; life on the movie sets and her brush with the Oscars; her battle with eating disorders; being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma at thirty-seven; her spiritual quest; lovers and traitors, mentors and dream-makers; and the heartaches and triumphs along the way. It is also about Lisa’s pursuit of love. Funny, charming, and gut-wrenchingly honest all at once, Close to the Bone is Lisa Ray’s brave and inspiring story of a life lived on her terms.

Lisa further spoke about how she penned down every day of her cancer battle in her blog ' The Yellow Diaries' and hinted towards coming up with 2 new books which reveal about her cancer battle and relationships in more detail. "I did not want to make this book all about cancer, in this 400-page book only around 40 pages deal with cancer whereas I wanted to portray the entire journey. The next book will be completely about my cancer struggle and I'm hoping to complete and release it soon with Harper Collins".
