As many as 29 industrialists from the Upvan area of Thane, who are likely to be affected by the proposed Thane Ring Metro project, have received relief after metro authorities agreed to consider their rehabilitation in the same locality.
The affected industrialists had raised concerns over the impact of the metro project on their businesses and livelihoods. They demanded that, instead of being shifted to a distant location, suitable rehabilitation arrangements should be made within the existing area.
The issue was raised by BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar, who sought intervention on behalf of the affected entrepreneurs. He urged the authorities to ensure that the businesses were not forced to relocate far from their existing premises.
During discussions with the affected industrialists, metro officials agreed to examine the demand for in-situ rehabilitation and provide suitable alternatives within the Upvan area.
The decision is expected to provide relief to the 29 entrepreneurs, who have been concerned about the possible loss of their establishments because of land requirements for the Ring Metro project.
The Thane Ring Metro is a major infrastructure project intended to improve connectivity within the city and link key residential and commercial areas. However, its implementation has also raised concerns among property owners, businesses and other stakeholders whose establishments may come within the project's alignment.
The agreement to consider rehabilitation in the same area is therefore being viewed as an important step towards balancing the city's infrastructure requirements with the interests of businesses affected by the project.
