The Music Academy of the Education Department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed 100 years this year. Also, like every year, the Education Department has organised a music week at Dinanath Mangeshkar Theater in Vile Parle from October 9th to 13th on the occasion of World Music Day.
Every year, Music Week is organized on October 1st by the BMC's Education Department. This year Music Week is being organised from October 9th to 13th to mark the golden jubilee year of the Academy. Students from the BMC schools, music teachers and art teachers with experience in singing, playing instruments, dance and drama will participate in this week.
In this week's inaugural function, a program 'Jau Santanchiya Gava' based on traditional Sant compositions by school child artists will be presented. Actress Manav Naik, Singer Shruti Sadolikar, Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation Gangatharan D. will grace the inauguration.
The play 'Atremay' presented by Parag Pratishthan will be performed on October 10 during Sangeet Week. On October 11, a program of teachers' orchestra and drama has been organised. The musical program 'Ragarang' based on classical ragas will be held on October 12. The well-known satar player Pt. Shankar Abhyankar will be present.
The music week will be concluded on October 13 with the program 'Sajal Nayan' by music teachers. Various officers of the BMC will attend the closing ceremony. This show which has been curated by students and teachers with painstaking efforts is free of cost and the Music Academy has requested music lovers to attend this show.
