Your journey in the entertainment industry…
I feel it’s an ongoing journey, today I am here because I have entertained people as an RJ. I have entertained people on the radio by saying different gags and interviewing celebrities. I have always been there on stage and now I have done a film Tumhari Sulu so this is a complete mixture. Television was not very far away and still, I am playing all the roles.
Inspiring moments from your journey…
Oh my! I think from the beginning my thing was to do the next thing. It was always a thing to be in front of the camera to do what I do and that dream is getting fulfilled with Tumhari Sulu and Entertainment Ki Raat. So yes, I am very much excited.
How was it facing the camera for a film?
Arey bahotalag hai, I can’t tell you. Generally, if you ask me to stand in front of the mike I feel very much confident but here I have unlearned many things which are usually taken for granted. I had to work on things like make-up, camera look which is normally not needed for a radio show.
Experience of working in Tumhari Sulu...
It was brilliant! I have done some acting projects before but I have been Malishka very often. In this movie my attitude is same but my name Albeli Anjali and I am the one who brings Vidya (Sulu) to the radio station. Plus I get to dance on Hawa Hawai which was my favorite childhood song; I used to love dancing on it. Moreover, Vidya Balan is such an amazing performer to work with. I remember how she used to make me feel at home on sets but at the same time bully me by saying -This is not done, you can’t be late on sets and then suddenly burst out laughing.
On being called ‘Mumbai ki Rani’…
According to me, Radio jockey is a personal star of the listeners. Today there are many RJ’s whom people connect very easily. I feel very lucky when people keep on saying that you’re a star ultimately it feels great. I always wanted to break this mold of being called ‘Bas ek RJ hai’ (She is only an RJ).
An actor you want to share screen space with…
Vidya Balan was a great start, other than her I would love to share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt.
Fun on the sets of Entertainment ki Raat …
On screen, it’s our job that we all have to do it for the content, but off-screen, it’s too much fun as we all are extremely chilled out. We keep on bullying or teasing each other but when it comes to work we also encourage each other.
The next 10 years for Malishka...
People constantly keep on saying that I am a brand so I would love to take this brand ‘Malishka’ ahead and also if I could also help the next generation to be more confident and accomplish their dreams.
