Creating headlines once again, Actor Kangana Ranaut has moved the Bombay High Court seeking directions with regards to her passport renewal amidst the COVID-19 pandemic so that she can go abroad for the shooting of a film.

Moreover, on Tuesday, June 15, a division bench led by Justice Prasanna B Varale will hear the plea. According to reports, the interim application filed through advocate Rizwan Siddiquee last week stated that Ranaut needs to fly to Hungary for the shooting of her movie “Dhaakad” from June 15 to August 30.

Furthermore, as per the plea, Ranaut’s passport is reportedly to expire on September 15 as a result of which she had applied for its renewal to the Passport Authority of India. However, the authority raised objections, stating that the Bandra FIR filed against her is an impediment to the renewal.

Back in October last year, the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court at Bandra had ordered the police to investigate a complaint filed by Munawwar Ali Sayyed, a Bollywood casting director and fitness trainer, which referred to tweets and statements by Ranaut and her sister Chandel which allegedly defamed Bollywood and spread “division and hatred between Hindu and Muslim communities”.On the direction of the court, the Bandra police registered an FIR against Ranaut and her sister under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc), 295A (deliberate acts hurting religious sentiments) and 124-A (sedition).

On the other hand, earlier on May 4, a year after Rangoli Chandel, Ranaut's sister Twitter account was suspended, Ranaut’s social media account has now been suspended as well. The suspension came following a recent tweet by the actor following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s loss in the Legislative elections in West Bengal.

The actor has time and again ridiculed not only political leaders but fellow colleagues as well for reasons best known to her. Her tweets have remained controversial with many of her statements attracting legal action, some of which are still pending before the court of law.
