On Monday, January 11, the Bombay High Court extended a civil court order till January 13 to Bollywood actor Sonu Sood.

The court granted interim protection to the actor from Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which has alleged illegal constructions made by the actor at his Juhu residence.

Mumbai’s civic body, the Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had earlier issued notice to the actor for allegedly carrying out structural changes to a residential building in suburban Juhu without permission. According to the civic body, the six-storey residential building in Juhu has been converted into a hotel without the required permits.

However, last week Sood approached the High Court as he challenged the notice issued against him by the BMC in October 2020. He was further served with an order passed by a civil court in December dismissing his suit against the action taken by the BMC.

The civic body had earlier come under the scanner when it had carried out the demolition process at actor Kangana Ranaut’s house. Moreover, on the same day, the civic body had also cornered Manish Malhotra, the fashion designer, for turning his house into a commercial space and not acquiring the due permission for it.

Meanwhile, the actor has been making continual philanthropic efforts to help the people in the midst of the pandemic. In recent developments, Sood has decided to distribute smartphones to students across the state who are unable to pursue their schooling due to inaccessibility to these phones. The actor was earlier hailed as the national hero during the lockdown for arranging transportation for migrants to go back to their hometowns.
