We are now in the third phase of the lockdown and most people have almost run out of new things to watch on OTT platforms. There is absolutely no new content being created since March 19, 2020, and OTT platforms are looking at making the most of whatever they have in reserve. While that is a great strategy, but for viewers there is nothing new ( content that is worth watching) that is being dished in the past couple of weeks.

Another great option during this lockdown 3.0 is to dig out some archives and watch some of the great movies in the yester years. We at Mumbai Live thought we might give you a little hand at that. So we are sharing with some really good movies that are on Netflix India has that you have not watched yet but they are worth checking out. Here is the first movie from that list.

The 1990s was an interesting time for Indian Cinema. It started with a blockbuster like DIl (1990) and ended with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). Both of the movies are love stories and very powerful ones at that. Also, both these movies have great music. During this time, most movies that went on to be a rage at the box office were predominately love stories. The most notable examples that come to the mind are movies such as Saajan, Aashiqui, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai,  Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

The year 1993 seems to an exemption in the list in which we a revenge drama like Baazigar took centerstage. There is another movie made in that year that did not manage to grab as many eyeballs but deserved every bit of the attention and worth a watch even now.

The movie that we are talking about is Gumrah and it stars Sridevi in the lead role. Unlike the narrative that Kangana Ranaut would like us to believe, back in the 1990s too we had movies that were shouldered by women and this is a really fine example of the same. The storyline is revolves around Sridevi. Right from her childhood, she is surrounded with all the luxuries of life, however, she longs for only one thing, the love of her father. She was raised by grandmother (nani ) and her mother and details regarding her father have been kept a secret from her. Despite asking several times all she gets is iced silence. It is only at her death bed that Sridevi’s on-screen mother Reema Lagoo reveals the big secret and there comes a twist.

Hang on this is not a Daddy (another movie made by the same director Mahesh Bhatt) as this is no regular twist. While scouting countries Sridevi who by now is a famous singer in India gets trapped in a drug racket and has no real means to get out of the same. Trapped in Hong Kong facing a death sentence, Sridevi is there helped by Sanjay Dutt. Dutt plays a petty thief, a street fighter, and a stalker who makes money selling tickets of her show in black.

The movie is worth giving a watch for the great job done by late Sridevi and the amazing direction by Mahesh Bhatt. The movie also has a great performance by Soni Razdan and Anupam Kher. The movie is streaming on Netflix
