SHARES

Fort: There was chaos of sorts outside the Reserve Bank of India offices in south Mumbai today after they failed to get their junked high denomiation notes exchanged.
The government had announced that after the deadline of 30 December for the exchange of the demonetised notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, only the RBI would accept the old notes and exchange them for new currency notes. However, in the absence of clear guidelines, people who turned up at the RBI on Tuesday were in for a long wait.
As per the rules, the old currency notes will be exchanged at the RBI by giving a proper declaration, income proof and adequate documents. NRIs can also exchange the old notes till June end and Indian citizens can exchange the notes till March end, it has been decided.
