In 2019, global home furnishing giant, IKEA, aims to open its first retail store in the city and second in India. Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, was present at an event held in Turbhe,Navi Mumbai,to make an announcement. The store opening is a result of the MoU signed between the company and the government of Maharashtra, according to reports.

IKEA is a Swedish-based company which deals with home furnishing and holds expertise in ready-to-assemble furniture. The company believes Maharashtra could be a big market for the retailers and has big plans for the state in the future.

The Navi Mumbai store will be spread across 4,30,000 square feet and is expected to create many employment opportunities.
