So far, along with teaching, teachers handle clerical jobs. However, henceforth, clerks will be appointed to handle the clerical work while teachers will be able to handle their job of teaching. The BMC is planning to hire 1182 for the clerk post. The education department has approved the project and now are waiting for the state government’s nod.

Currently, there are 1206 BMC-run primary and unaided secondary medium Mumbai Public Schools (MPS) in Mumbai. All these schools do not have clerks, hence, a teacher handles all the clerical work. Education officer Mahesh Palkar clarified that once the state government gives a nod, 1182 clerks will be appointed. He added that previously there were no clerical posts. Once the state government approves, the department will think of the procedure of hiring the clerks.
