The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and traffic police will carry out the pilot project where 13 important roads will get sign boards of international standards. Twelve of these roads lies in Mumbai. A survey has been commissioned to identify other stretches in the eastern and western suburbs.
The roads selected are DN Road, Mohammad Ali Road, J J Road, Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, R A Kidwai Road, P D'Mello Road, SV Road from Milan Subway to Borivali station, N S Road (Marine Drive), Annie Besant Road, Lala Lajpatrai Road, Khan Abdul Gafar Khan Marg, Senapati Bapat Road (Tulsi Pipe Road) and Eastern Freeway.

Officials said that other key roads are not being considered owing to the ongoing Metro construction work.
Vinod Chithore, Director of Engineering Services and Projects, BMC, said that a team of experts was appointed to carry out a survey. Signs of international standards will be put up on 13 roads based on their recommendations and Indian Road Congress (IRC) specifications. He added that broken signs and missing signs will be a priority. Tenders have been issued and work should begin in the current financial year as well, he added.
