A survey conducted in Mumbai suburban areas has identified 16,344 cases of child malnutrition. The survey was carried out by anganwadi workers under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme. It covered 234,896 children out of 238,094 registered in February 2025.

The ICDS Nutrition Tracker App found this data:

- 2,887 children were found with severe acute malnutrition.

- 13,457 had Moderate Acute Malnutrition.

Health check-ups were conducted from October 2024 to February 2025 under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram. These cases were recorded based on height and weight measurements. The government has now started verifying the data.

These tests identified 1,159 children as severely malnourished and 3,096 as moderately malnourished. Minister Ashish Shelar reviewed the findings in a meeting with district officials. He called the situation concerning and directed the administration to submit a report on necessary remedial measures within 10 days.

In February 2025 alone, 450 cases of severe malnutrition and 407 cases of moderate malnutrition were recorded. Officials have now decided to set up urban child development centres in Mumbai suburban areas.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been instructed to conduct further medical check-ups. A final list of malnourished children will be prepared after verification.
