From today, September 12, traffic could intensify at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), as the road from Diamond Bourse Junction to JSW Centre and Platina Building Junction to Motilal Nehru Nagar near Trade Centre will be closed.

In an official statement, Pradnya Jedge, DCP (HQ & Central Traffic), said that traffic management on the routes will remain in force from September 12 midnight till June 30, 2024 to prevent any obstruction or mishaps.

The tenure of road closure is quite long as the construction of an underground railway station for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National High-Speed Rail Corporation bullet train project is coming up at the MMRDA ground.

Explaining the major reason behind traffic at BKC Pravin Padwal, Joint Commissioner of Traffic, said that the reduced width of the carriageway due to Metro works and BKC has become a connecting link between Western and Eastern Suburbs. Earlier it was Dharavi. He further added that the internal roads are choked and there is no proper parking planned in BKC.

The BKC connector through Kurla's Razzak junction, MTNL junction to diamond bourse junction by taking a left and then a right turn towards the JSW office in Kherwadi, Bandra (East), the road from Kherwadi to Asian Heart Hospital via a left turn and then a right towards the diamond bourse junction to JSW and MMRDA offices and J Kumar yard, the Razzak and MTNL junctions, and the BKC Road 10 to Platina junction via a left turn and a right turn towards the trade Centre are among the routes that will be closed to traffic.

Well, route diversion is a big trouble for commuters, as it increases the traffic and travel time of commuters. But if you have to make a necessary commute, Traffic Police have listed the following routes as alternate routes:

  • Instead of travelling from Kurla Razzak intersection to the diamond bourse junction and the JSW headquarters in the direction of Kherwadi, vehicles can continue by taking a right turn from Asian Heart Hospital.

  • Vehicles can now turn left from the Nabard intersection to BKC instead of taking the route that runs from Kherwadi to Asian Heart Hospital till the JSW office.

  • Vehicles have the option to turn left at MTNL junction rather than using Razzak junction to the trade centre.

  • In order to go to MTNL junction from Motilal Nehru Nagar Trade Centre, vehicles travelling towards Platina junction in BKC can turn left, then right, at the trade centre.

Earlier it was reported that a comprehensive transport plan (CTP) has been set by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to assist in alleviating the problems faced by drivers, pedestrians, and those who use public transport. But with this bullet train station construction, we will have to see how the CPT plan of MMRDA works out.
