Mumbai: 26 including 15 students tested positive for COVID-19 at an orphanage in Byculla

According to latest reports, 26 persons including 15 minors have tested positive for coronavirus from St Joseph’s school and orphanage at Agripada in Byculla area of Mumbai.

Currently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed the premises of St. Joseph’s School and Orphanage, Agripada, in E ward.

As per the Assistant Municipal Commissioner and in-charge of E ward Manish Valanju, one of the students at the orphanage tested positive on August 23. However, trouble started when two staff with fever were taken to the BMC’s Souter Street dispensary on the same day. 

RT-PCR tests were conducted and the women tested positive the next day. Meanwhile, two more women came to the fever clinic.

After which the local ward office conducted a testing camp on the school premises the following day. The BMC health team arranged a test camp for all inhabitants and staff on August 24.

A total of 95 people were tested from the school, of whom, 26 tested positive on August 25.

Out of the total positive cases, four are children below 12 years, while 11 are between the age group of 12-18 years. Besides, the remaining 11 are adults, which includes staff members and senior citizens. 

The children below 12 years have been shifted to the paediatric department of Nair hospital, whereas the 11 children between 12 and 18 years and the 11 adults, including the women aged above 60 years, have been admitted to the Richardson and Cruddas COVID Care Centre in Byculla.  

All the residents are either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic but have been shifted to hospitals as a precaution.
