A Bryde’s Whale’s 40-feet carcass washed ashore the coast of South Mumbai in Navy Nagar, Colaba. According to reports in Hindustan Times, The whale was found in two pieces – one 26-feet-long body and its tail which was approximately 14-feet-long.

Experts from state mangrove cell are yet to confirm the cause of the mammal’s death but they suspect that the animal may have died a couple of weeks ago.

Navy Nagar residents reported this carcass on Saturday but forest officials reported this incident on Monday.

In a similar case, a 45-foot-long Bryde’s whale carcass was found in two pieces at Juhu and Madh earlier this year.

The Bryde’s Whale is found worldwide in warm temperate and tropical waters and is protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, making it an offence to kill the mammal.
