The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has prepared a list of dangerous buildings in the locality, and as per the report, the district has a total of 4522 dangerous buildings. Of these, 73 buildings are said to be extremely dangerous.

However, the report also shows that the number of high-risk buildings has dropped this year. In 2020, the report from TMC revealed that a total of 103 were high-risk buildings, however, the number this year is said to be 73.

Following the release of this list, the municipality has issued notices to the occupants to vacate the buildings, and once this is complete, officials will begin the demolition work for the same.

The municipal administration publishes a list of dangerous buildings every year to ensure these buildings do not collapse during the monsoon. Several districts in Maharashtra are known to experience torrential rainfall, and every year, many buildings collapse owing to their condition.

As per the government protocol, dangerous buildings in the state are classified into four sections namely C-1, C-2A, C2B and C3. The Naupada-Kopari ward committee area has the highest number of 43 dangerous buildings, whereas only one building from Ghodbunder was mentioned to be dangerous. Meanwhile, no building is said to be dangerous in Vartaknagar area.

On the other hand, there are seven in Lokmanya-Savarkar, six in Uthalsar, five in Kalwa, six in Mumbra and five in Diva are extremely dangerous.
