Mumbai Suburban District Collector, Rajendra Kshirsagar, revealed a number of details and data regarding the soon-to-be-held Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections during a press conference held at his office on March 18. It's interesting to note that over 4,000 voters in the district are over 100 years old. Those over 85 and holders of divyang certificates will have access to a ballot paper voting system at home.

Additionally, there will be polling booths at 17 cooperative housing societies. Overall, the Mumbai suburban district is handling the election process for four Lok Sabha and 26 Vidhan Sabha constituencies.

Addressing the press conference, the collector said that a total of 4,632 registered voters as of now are above the age of 100. This number might change after the authorities complete the verification process. The number will undoubtedly go down because typos happen frequently and additional considerations must be made during the verification process.

As per the directives released by the Indian Election Commission, voters who are over 85 years old would receive a ballot paper voting service at home. The same facilities will be available to those who possess an up-to-date divyang certificate. Unlike certain polling places from the last elections that were located on higher floors, all of the polling places will be accessible to people with disabilities and will be located on the ground floor. 14,130 voters in the constituency are registered as meeting the requirements for a handicap.

Sharing details of polling booths in the city, Rajendra Kshirsagar said that a total of 7,380 polling booths are being stationed with proper planning in the district for the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. These polling booths will be located at 1,083 locations across the district. Out of these 7,380 polling booths, 2,032 will be temporary booths, and 27 will be auxiliary polling stations. The population of the Mumbai suburban district is anticipated to be around 1,16,00,000.

He said in order to make sure the candidates are abiding by the code of conduct, more than 44,000 poll workers have been recruited for the elections, and a number of control rooms have started to operate.

Nearly 4,000 celebrities in the Mumbai Suburban district have received a letter from the district collector encouraging them to ask their fans to register in order to exercise their franchise, the collector added.

There are 72,28,403 eligible voters in the city. After the 2019 elections, 4 lakh more voters were registered. There are 38,94,180 male voters, 33,33,422 female voters, and 801 transgender voters.
