In the Thane Municipal Corporation area, 51% of the drain cleaning work has been completed so far. The Solid Waste Management Department is determined to finish cleaning all the drains before the monsoon begins. More than 90% of the major drains, which are being cleaned using mechanical methods, have already been cleared. Work has now begun on cleaning the smaller drains, especially in areas where large machines cannot reach.
The TMC area consists of around 278 kilometers of both large and small drains spread across its nine ward committee regions. Most of the major drains have already been cleaned mechanically. In densely populated areas where smaller drains are located and where big machines cannot access, manual cleaning has now started.
