Just days after a labourer died in Vashi due to a contractor not following safety protocols, another tragic incident has taken place in Mankhurd. Another accident has occurred at the ongoing construction site of Metro. A six-year-old boy from Mahatma Phule Nagar in Mankhurd lost his life after falling into an 8 feet deep pit. The pit was dug by Mumbai Railway Development Corporation Limited (MRVC) for station improvement work.

The boy's name is Ayush Rajesh Segokar and he lived with his parents and sister in Mahatma Phule Nagar. While playing with friends, he wandered away from his residence and fell into a pit dug near a railway station. The passengers who saw the incident informed the GRP.

“Usually, the area is crowded with workers, but on Sunday, it was deserted and the boy was seen walking around the place. As there was no fence around the pit, the boy did not notice and fell into it, resulting in his drowning,” said senior police inspector Sambhaji Katre.

“The names of the contractors to whom MRVC has entrusted the work are currently being verified. However, a case has already been registered due to the absence of security measures around the construction site,” Katre added.

The Vashi Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case of murder under Section 304 of the IPC against the supervisor and the engineer. MRVC's Chief Public Relations Officer said, “This is MRVC's station improvement work. The matter is being investigated by the police department and the report is awaited”.
