COVID Vaccination: 6,115 Teens Got Jabbed in Mumbai on Day 1

At present, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin – the only vaccine option for the 15 to 18 age group – is being administered to the teenagers. The gap between two doses of Covaxin is four weeks.

On Day 1, Monday, January 3, of the COVID-19 vaccination drive for 15-18 year olds, Maharashtra administered 1,76,552 doses. While, in Mumbai a total of 6,115 youngsters got jabbed, public and private centres combined, according to the data.

The vaccination drive was held at 35 facilities, including the city’s nine jumbo centres.

Of the total, 4,954 children received their vaccine at civic-run and government centres, whereas 1,161 were vaccinated at private facilities.

However, the BMC has set a target of vaccinating 9 lakh children in the age group within 28 days. That would mean administering 35,000 doses daily.

Reports stated that in Mumbai, Tanuja Makadwala and Rajan Bari, both class 10 students of Shastri Nagar Mumbai Public Secondary School (Santacruz West) were the first teenagers to get their doses. They received their jabs at 11.15 am at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) jumbo COVID-19 centre as Maharashtra Tourism and Environment minister Aaditya Thackeray, who launched the drive virtually, looked on.

Besides, on Monday, January 4, more than 40 lakh vaccine doses were administered till 8.30 pm, as per the CoWIN portal.
