According to reports, seven residents from two families in the Badrinath building in Khar West have contracted COVID-19. Following this, the structure has been sealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Out of seven, three are senior citizens and none has serious comorbidities.
It has come to light that all infected residents were fully vaccinated with Covaxin or Covishield and have completed 15 days post-vaccination. The development further underlines the fact that fully vaccinated people can get infected, too.
The building, which comes under BMC’s H west ward, was sealed on September 25. The members of the Badrinath building, situated on 15th road, near Khar Gymkhana, from the third and fourth floors tested positive for coronavirus. All of them took vaccines in different months and from different centres.
A youth from one of the families developed symptoms and so his parents were tested, too. All three tested positive on and before September 21. Reports of members of the other family came on September 25.
A BMC health official said that one resident used to travel to work in Andheri in a cab and went shopping to a nearby market. Another from the other family visited a restaurant after which he developed symptoms and then other members of his family tested positive.
However, fortunately, no one has serious symptoms, all are currently isolated at home.
The building is sealed as it has more than five cases.
Currently, there are over 44 sealed floors in the H west ward. Though there is no data for the fully vaccinated who got infected.
