On Friday morning, the prison inmates from Byculla Jail were offered breakfast after which they started vomiting and complained of dehydration. The prison staff immediately rushed them to JJ Hospital.

Around 82 undertrial inmates were taken to JJ Hospital after suffering from an alleged case of food poisoning. 55 female inmates have been admitted to the neurology department and 28 other inmates have been admitted to disaster ward. Among others, there are two inmates who are 24-week old and 26-weeks old pregnant respectively. Along with this, there is a 4-month old baby of an inmate who has been admitted for food poisoning. Both mother and baby are reported to be stable.  

More than 50 prisoners of Byculla Jail have been admitted to Mumbai's JJ Hospital after they complained of vomiting and abdominal pain,” Dr. Mukund Tayade, Dean, JJ Hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr Sanjay Surase, medical superintendent (MS) said that of 82 inmates, two are reported to be in a critical condition.

Indrani Mukerjea, a prime accused in Sheena Bora's murder case, is also being reported to be one of the inmates, however, doctors have not confirmed the same, yet.
