8,500 People Shifted From Diva As Nearby Dam Overflows

Due to incessant rainfall in the last 2-3 days, Barvi dam near Diva in Thane district overflowed causing a great threat to people living in the low-lying areas. As a precautionary measure, Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) along with army personnel and Fire Brigade shifted over 8,500 people from the surrounding area.

These people were rescued with the help of boats and similar such rescue operations have taken place in low-lying catchment areas of Palghar district, Vasai etc. Police personnel along with volunteers of several Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) rescued several tribals from Kaju Bandan Pada, Nadi Pada, Chave Vadi villages in Thane.   

Thane police have stated that along with people, over 150 cattle have also been shifted. Notably, railway tracks are damaged at Chunabhatti and Sion as the Mithi river was overflowing and around 400 people who were residing near the river have been shifted.
