Around 96 engineers have been declared guilty in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) road scam. This list of engineers includes names of a deputy chief engineer, one assistant engineer, and two secondary engineers, who have been suspended. Seven other engineers from the list were demoted and remaining were denied salary. A total of only four engineers have got a clean chit.
When the civic body received complaints regarding the scam, the BMC conducted an immediate enquiry, and after examining 34 roads, the civic body registered an FIR against those who were found guilty, and 12 contract companies were blacklisted. The BMC took action against roads chief engineer Ashok Pawar, other engineers were let go.
A committee was appointed during the enquiry, which was headed by Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Bamble, who then submitted the report stating 96 engineers as guilty. As per the information received, this was also done because BMC’s commissioner Ajoy Mehta was being accused of backing these 100 engineers.
