People who have not linked their Aadhaar card to their bank account can relax as the central government has withdrawn its decision. Henceforth, there will be no deadline for linking. Initially, the date for linking a bank account to Aadhaar card was December 31 which was extended to March 31.

The Finance Ministry’s revenue department issued a notification on Tuesday stating that the new deadline would be notified by the Central Government after due consultations.

The new notification in the Gazette modified the Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002 to replace the requirement of submitting “the Aadhaar number and PAN by December 31, 2017” with a provision saying “submit the Aadhaar number, and PAN or Form No. 60, by such date as may be notified by the Central government.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday, a five-judge constitutional bench of the Supreme Court is likely to hear few petitions which have challenged the Centre’s move to make Aadhaar card mandatory to avail government schemes and welfare measures.
