Mumbai Guardian minister Aaditya Thackeray held a review meeting with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, May 31, to expedite the immunization of coronavirus in the city.

In the meeting, which was held at BMC headquarters, discussions were held on the availability of vaccines as well as what can be done to speed up vaccination in the city.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Kishori Pednekar, Standing Committee Chairman Yashwant Jadhav, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, BMC Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide and Suresh Kakani.

Thackeray said that the COVID-19 cases could be brought under control only if the maximum number of people are vaccinated at the earliest. Therefore, the availability of vaccines and speeding up of the vaccination drive must be accelerated. He directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to make this happen.

In a recently taken decision, Aaditya Thackeray announced that the students from Mumbai who have planned to visit the universities abroad for higher studies will have to get vaccinated before travelling. The centres will also be administering vaccines to these students on priority.

However, these students need the Covshield vaccine and the gap between the two doses for this vaccine is wide. This is causing inconvenience to many students as they have to wait at least 84 days for the second dose. Therefore, there was a discussion on whether the gap between the two doses could be reduced for these students.

The civic body officials said that discussions are being held in this regard with the vaccine centres and government as well. These students should be vaccinated on a priority basis without any inconvenience, said Thackeray.
